The Vision Care for Kids Act
Two out of every three children do not receive a vision assessment before starting school. But, you can help change that. New legislation on Capitol Hill can help children get the vision care they need. This bill will finally address the number of children that have been falling through the cracks of vision care system because of lack of coverage in working poor families. Studies from the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention and across the country at the state level are telling us the current vision system is not working. The Military Eye Trauma Act
The Iraq war has inflicted thousands of U.S. soldiers with devastating injuries. Many injuries to U.S. troops have been caused by the enemy's use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs). IEDs can produce extremely powerful explosions and shockwaves that cause a multitude of injuries. One the most prevalent types of injuries suffered by U.S. troops caught in the blast of an IED is an eye injury. The "Military Eye Trauma Act of 2007" (H.R. 3558) goes a long way in protecting the visual health and safety of America's wounded veterans. As such, The Vision Council endorses this bill and strongly encourages the public to support this truly important and urgently necessary piece of legislation. The Vision Preservation Act
Vision loss is a very important health concern to the vast majority of Americans. However, only 40 percent of Americans are aware that ocular diseases, such as macular degeneration, can lead to vision loss. We believe that the “Vision Preservation Act of 2007” (H.R. 3750) will bring the focus and resources necessary to promote the awareness, research and funding needed to bolster programs directed toward the prevention, control and mitigation of vision disorders. The “Vision Preservation Act of 2007” is what Americans need for the protection of their visual health. As such, The Vision Council strongly endorses and supports this important piece of legislation.
